Luxury operator goes into administration
Luxury tour operator Jacada Travel has gone into administration and part of the business has been transfered to safari operator Wilderness Safaris, which will take over 570 existing bookings.
London-based Jacada was launched in 2007 and sold mainly in the US.
KPMG was appointed administrator on Wednesday and all 52 staff have been made redundant.
Steve Absolom, partner at KPMG and joint administrator, said: "The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the global travel industry has been seismic, and in common with operators large and small, the impact of a sudden loss of income on the company’s cash position soon became unsustainable.
"We are pleased to have been able to conclude a transaction with Wilderness, providing some continuity for those customers who had future bookings with Jacada.
"However, we understand this will be a difficult time for Jacada’s employees, and we will be working with them over the coming days and weeks to provide them with any and all support they need."
A message on Jacada’s website under FAQs says: "We will be personally telephoning each of our guests in the coming weeks to address questions, and to determine the best options for your trip.
"The travel landscape has been upended and because Covid-19 closures may have also impacted certain suppliers and operators, it cannot be guaranteed that all existing reservations will be able to operate as scheduled, be rebooked or that the trip itineraries will be exactly the same.
"We will do our utmost to maintain or reschedule your existing trip and in most instances, we believe we’ll be able to do just that."
