Macau to open seventh quarantine hotel

Sunday, 22 Mar, 2020 0

The Macau government will take over its seventh hotel designated as a quarantine centre.

It agreed to use the Tung Fong Commercial Inn which will house the next wave of Macau residents and visitors arriving from overseas.

It says Metropole Hotel, Pousada Marina Infante Hotel, Golden Crown China Hotel, Fortune Hotel, Regency Art Hotel and the Grand Coloane Resort are all full of quarantined patients.

The Macau Government Tourist Office says it is ‘a safer option for residents, upon their return to Macao, to undergo medical observation at designated hotels rather than self-quarantine at home.’

"The process of choosing designated hotels for medical observation, requires the government to take a diverse range of factors into careful consideration, as well as to gain the consent of the designated hotels," the MGTO said.

"It is worth noting that all individuals under mandatory quarantine at designated hotels for medical observation are without symptoms and have not been in close contact with confirmed cases of novel coronavirus pneumonia," it added.

The government says it will likely take over more hotels for this purpose in the coming days.

Macau has recorded 10 cases of covid-19 but all have recovered.
