MICE guests add to Euro Disney coffers
Euro Disney has reported hotel occupancy was 5pp ahead as a result of an additional 78,000 room nights being occupied versus the prior-year period. The increase in room nights was driven by a rise in the number of guests from Spain and in the corporate convention business.
It reported a 12.2% or €35.1m increase in revenues to €321.7m (£215.7m) for its third quarter ended 30 June 2007.
Revenues at its two Paris theme parks – Disneyland Resort Paris and Walt Disney Studios – were 8.1% or €13m ahead at €173.7m (£116.5m). Euro Disney said the growth primarily reflected a 9% increase in attendance, particularly by French and Spanish visitors, as average spending per guest remained ‘essentially stable’.
Attendance was boosted by new attractions, including the Walt Disney Studios Park’s Crush’s Coaster and Cars Race Rally, inspired by the films Finding Nemo and Cars respectively, which opened on June 9 as part of Euro Disney’s 15th anniversary celebrations.
Revenues from the parks’ seven Disney-themed hotels and the Disney Village restaurant, shopping and entertainment zone rose by 21.3% or €23.3m to €132.7m (£89m), reflecting a 17% increase in average spending per room and a 4.7 percentage point increase in hotel occupancy.
