Thursday, 16 May, 2024 1

The iconic Mirage Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, will finally close its doors this summer after more than three decades.

The 3,000-room resort will close on July 17 and undergo a three-year renovation which will transform it into the Hard Rock Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas resort was opened in 1989 by Steve Wynn.

It was arguably the pioneer of the Vegas sidewalk entertainment with its volcano attraction.

“We look forward to the beginning of an exciting journey into a new era as Hard Rock Las Vegas,” the Mirage posted on Facebook .

The Mirage also hosted the long running Siegfried and Roy’s white tigers show.

The Las Vegas resort is expected to reopen in 2027 as the Hard Rock Las Vegas, complete with a guitar shaped hotel tower.

Wynn sold the Mirage to MGM Resorts in 2000 and MGM later sold it to Hard Rock International two years ago.

Hard Rock International is paying more than $80 million in severance payments to 3,000 Mirage employees being laid off.
