Newark screeners not up to par
A report obtained by The Star-Ledger says that security screeners at Newark Liberty International Airport are not properly executing passenger pat-downs.
The internal report compiled by undercover TSA agents says that the screeners are only doing pat downs in the correct way about 17 percent of the time. The report also says that airport screeners in Newark are not taking appropriate action on prohibited items 75 percent of the time.
One particulary shocking finding of the study was that in no cases — that would be 0 percent — did TSA agents at Newark inform passengers of their right to a pat-down instead of a full body scan (see our story on this issue here).
Although performance rated as poor in these two categories, other areas such as good listening skills and moving items once found in physical searches are at 100 percent.
