Pilots grounded after landing on an incomplete runway
Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Authority is investigating why a flight carrying 203 passengers landed on a closed runway that was still under construction.
The landing strip at Nha Trang Airport is not even connected to the rest of the airport as it doesn’t have a taxiway, which meant the
Vietnam Airlines’ Airbus was effectively stuck there with no way for passengers and baggage to get to the terminal building.
The landing on the unprepared surface caused slight damage to one of the engines.
The Civil Aviation Authority called it a serious incident and grounded the two pilots while a full investigation takes place.
