Power cuts possible in ski resorts
French ski resorts could be hit by power cuts this winter as almost a third of the country’s nuclear power stations are out of action.
Grid operator RTE warned early this week that it might have to take exceptional measures, including ‘short power cuts in certain areas’, in order to keep homes warm.
This is because 20 out of 58 nuclear power plants have been temporarily disconnected for safety checks, according to The Local.
Electrical shortages are most likely to occur in the first three weeks of December, said RTE, which is considering paying industrial customers to turn off machinery in order to avoid cutting power to homes.
Whether this will include ski lift operators shutting down equipment has not been made clear.
