Princess plans double ship-naming

Saturday, 15 Nov, 2006 0

A double ship naming ceremony is to be conducted by Princess Cruises in the Mediterranean next year.

The line will name 3,100-passenger Emerald Princess and 710-passenger Royal Princess in a dual launch to be held off Santorini on May 12.

The line’s customer service and sales senior vice-president Jan Swartz said: “These two ships represent the full scope of our fleet – from large to small – and it will be a wonderful contrast to launch them together at the same time.”

The 113,000-ton Emerald Princess will be the company’s first ship to enter service from Civitavecchia, the port for Rome, starting on April 11.

The 30,000-ton Royal Princess, currently operating as Minvera II for Swan Hellenic, is due to join the Princess fleet next April with a series of 12-day Mediterranean itineraries.
