UK: BA says collectors want to buy Concorde parts when it is retired
British Airways is claiming it has had many offers to buy parts of Concorde jets when the fleet of supersonic craft is retired in the autumn.
As reported, the legendary jet will be retired from service at the end of October following falling sales and a general decline in the market for expensive flight tickets. Now British Airways says there have been inquiries from people wanting to buy parts – and that one caller has inquired about using the plane to shoot a pop video.
A spokesman told the online news provider Ananova: “We have said that some of the planes might end up on display and it is possible that four intact Concordes could go to museums. But quite what will happen to all the bits of Concorde is open to debate. We have certainly had a lot of inquiries from people wanting to purchase parts.”
Ananova suggests that the jet’s iconic nose cone could be auctioned for as much as £7 million.
