Qantas jet delayed after fuel leak
Ninemsn reports that a Qantas jet was grounded at Brisbane Airport for over three hours yesterday after the airliner started to leak fuel.
Passengers were ordered off flight QF175 at around 12pm today as engineers checked the Los Angeles-bound 747-400.
They were first alerted to the problem when they were told the plane would be delayed because the gate at LAX wouldn’t be ready to accommodate upon arrival.
They were then told about the fuel leak.
“The pilot at first just said they ‘think there’s a fuel leak, they’re not quite sure, they’ve got the engineers looking’, and then an air hostess said they’d found a fuel leak and they all needed us to disembark,” passenger Sharni Lindsay told ninemsn.
She said airport fire trucks were on the tarmac next to the plane when the passengers were forced off.
“They were like surrounding the plane as we came off (the plane) with their lights flashing.”
Ms Lindsay said passengers were held in a secure area before being allowed back into the terminal, where they were given food vouchers.
“Everyone (the passengers) was talking about the maintenance offshore.”
A spokeswoman from Qantas confirmed the delay, “A Qantas flight to LA was delayed by three and a half hours due to a technical issue with the fuel systems,” the spokeswoman said.
“Passengers did disembark while engineers investigated the issue.”
“The issue was rectified and the aircraft departed at 2.39pm (AEST) — it was a minor problem.”
