Reports: Crystal Cruises shuts down for good
Beleaguered Crystal Cruises has closed and has started laying off US workers, according to reports.
V.Ships has been appointed by banks to manage the cruise ships, which are apparently for sale.
An announcement made to crew on the Crystal Symphony stated: "I have been informed that the entire Crystal Cruises office in the US is closing down."
"Unfortunately, this is the end of Crystal Cruises, and we don’t know what’s going to happen in the future."
The Symphony and Crystal Serenity have been seized in the Bahamas for unpaid bills.
The Crystal Endeavor is at sea on its way to Montevideo, Uruguay.
Additionally, parent Genting Hong Kong confirmed liquidators for its Asia-based brand Dream Cruises.
It is hoped Dream Cruises can be restructured and trim its debt sufficiently to continue operating as a going concern.
