Royal Caribbean orders three new ships

Monday, 26 May, 2016 0
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd has revealed plans for three new ships, including a fifth Oasis-class ship.

The latest order comes just days after Royal Caribbean’s new 5,479-passenger Harmony of the Seas set sail on its inaugural voyage.

Royal Caribbean also said it will add two more Edge Class ships for the Celebrity Cruises brand, adding to the first two which are slated to begin service in 2018 and 2020.

All three new ships will be built at Saint-Nazaire’s STX shipyard in France and delivered between 2021 and 2022.

"The response to the arrival of Harmony of the Seas is staggering, eliciting excitement from eager cruisers from markets on both sides of the Atlantic, and Edge-class is one of the most highly anticipated new projects, following the high bar set by its predecessor, the Solstice-class," said Richard D. Fain, chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.

"Although our first Edge-class vessel is still over two years away from delivery, there has been a tremendous amount of interest around the new standard of style Edge-class will introduce," added Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, CEO, Celebrity Cruises.
