Ship engine room fire causes cruise cancellations

MSC Cruises has been forced to suspend sailings at the last minute due to an engine room fire aboard MSC Orchestra.
This issue was quickly contained, the cruise line said, but more time is needed for assessment, repairs and testing.
According to guests’ social media posts, power went out on the ship for about three hours.
The ship arrived in Genoa several hours later than scheduled where it will receive repairs.
“The MSC Orchestra experienced a technical issue in the engine room during the early hours of Tuesday morning, which affected the electrical switchboard and resulted in smoke,” the cruise line said.
“It had no impact on other areas of the ship, including guest spaces and there are no reported injuries.”
The ship is sailing week-long Mediterranean cruise itineraries.
It is unclear how the next sailing will be impacted, although ‘assistance is being provided and appropriate refunds are being offered to impacted guests,’ MSC Cruises added.
So far, boarding at Genoa and Marseille was cancelled
