Communications specialist says further developments likely in future

Travellers will soon be able to check their travel details simply by typing their flight number, airline code, and the suffix .aero, according to a report in the Financial Times.

The newspaper’s travel expert Roger Bray reports that new technology from Sita means airlines will soon be able to effectively register all flights as individual internet sites. Therefore, anyone typing in cy.363.aero would find details of Cyprus Airways’ flight from London to Larnaca. Sita says travellers should one day be able to use this system to check availability, as well as book and pay for tickets.

The company says it is also working on a system that will allow travellers to check all services between given destinations; therefore typing lon-lca.aero would give a list of all services between London and Larnaca. The FT reports that Sita has “completed the first round of consultation with the industry” regarding its new system.
