South Korea orders inspections of all Boeing 737-800 aircraft

South Korea has ordered checks on all Boeing 737-800 aircraft following the deadly Jeju Air crash which killed 179 people.

Acting South Korean President Choi Sang-mok announced all the 101 Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by South Korean airlines would be assessed.

It has caused Boeing shares to sink by at least 4% in early trading.

The Jeju Air flight skidded off the runway due to suspected landing gear failure and slammed into a perimetre wall.

The Boeing jet involved was about 15 years old.

It is a different model than the Boeing 737 Max which has been under intense safety scrutiny for several years.

In early 2024 a door panel flew off an Alaska Airlines 737 Max.
