Southampton Airport starts installing next-gen security scanners
Southampton Airport has entered a new phase in its multi-million-pound project to enhance security screening.
It has begun installing Next Generation Security Checkpoint (NGSC) scanners.
These NGSC scanners represent a major upgrade to the airport’s security process.
Once fully operational, they will allow passengers to keep electronic devices, such as laptops, in their hand baggage during screening, significantly streamlining the security process.
As work continues over the next several months, passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
Normal security preparation procedures will remain in place while the installation progresses.
Gavin Williams, MD Operations at Southampton Airport, said: “Tis represents one of the most significant advancements in airport security. I am excited about the long-term benefits it will deliver.”
The airport’s retailers will remain fully operational and will continue to serve passengers during their standard operating hours.
