Southwest adds 11 new cities
In the wake of its recent deal with faltering discounter ATA, Southwest Airlines is adding code-share cities.
Southwest will begin service next month at 11 new cities, including New York LaGuardia and Washington’s Reagan National. Both are high congestion airports the airline avoided in the past, says USA Today.
In addition to LaGuardia and Reagan airports, Southwest will sell tickets on certain ATA flights between Chicago and Boston, Newark, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Denver, San Francisco and Honolulu. Southwest will also add three airports in Florida: Sarasota-Bradenton, Fort Myers-Naples and St. Petersburg.
As a result of the announcement, ATA will be able to sell tickets to 43 Southwest markets it is not serving under its own name.
All the Southwest-ATA code-share flights will connect at Chicago Midway.
