Spanish tourism to target India
SINGAPORE – Increased air connectivity from India to Europe has encouraged Spain to set its sights on India as one of its priority tourism markets.
Spain expects new marketing strategies will raise awareness and further educate Indian consumers on Spain and its culture.
One recent initiative included a research project commissioned by the regional NTO Spain office Singapore and conducted by international market research company, TNS.
Research of the Indian market found that although activities such as bull fighting, fashion, wine and soccer were immediately associated with Spain, there was no concrete image of what the country offered.
“This only confirms that we have a huge potential in India”, said Enrique Ruiz de Lera, director of the regional NTO of Spain.
Spain will open a national tourist office in Mumbai in late 2008.
Further promotional activities include a Spanish workshop in Ramada, Caravela Beach Resort in Goa from October 26-29 when the travel trade and media will be exposed to the diversity of Spanish products and destinations through interactive seminars.
Guests will also be treated to a culinary platter of Spanish food prepared by Spanish chefs flown to Goa for this event.
A world famous flamenco group comprising of Gerardo Nunez, an internationally renowned flamenco guitar player, accompanied by flamenco dancer, Carmen Cortes, will provide entertainment.
More than 20 Spanish delegates will be flying into India to support the event.
