Sri Lanka show aims to boost tourism

More than 300 global buyers have registered to attend the Sri Lanka Tourist Board’s annual tourism showcase and exhibition.

This is against 80 last year, reflecting increasing interest in the destination, according to tourist board chairman Udaya Nanayakkara.

Speaking prior to the Sri Lanka, Gateway to South Asia event in Colombo on October 2-5, he said:  “Interest in Sri Lanka, whether as a luxurious retreat, an international conference and incentive destination, or as the natural gateway to South East Asia, is increasing rapidly.

“This is reflected in the response we have had to this event from the international tourist industry; last year the same event attracted 80 buyers, this year we are looking forward to welcoming over 300.”

The show will highlight the country’s  resorts, conference venues, hotels, restaurants, airlines, incentive houses, travel insurance companies and tour operators, whilst promoting the country as the natural gateway to other South Asia  nations.

One feature on show will be exclusive propertieswith 15 rooms or less. Exhibitors representing eco-tourism products and services, theme parks and adventure and sports tourism will demonstrate the diversity of Sri Lanka.
