State of emergency declared in Florida as Erika gets closer
Tropical Storm Erika is heading towards Florida, where a state of emergency has been declared across all counties.
The storm has already caused devastation in Dominica, where it is reported at least 12 people have been killed by flooding and mudslides, although local reports put the death toll at 25.
Erika then lashed Puerto Rico early Friday and is expected to move towards the Dominican Republic, then Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas.
Authorities are keeping a close eye on Erika, which is expected to near South Florida early next week.
In the Pacific, tropical storms Ignacio and Jimena have strengthened into hurricanes.
