Sweden’s unique way of life, rooted in balance and with easy access to both nature and culture, makes it an ideal place to reset your mind and body.

Together with Swedish senior professor Yvonne Forsell, who has a long clinical background in psychiatry, Visit Sweden -Sweden’s official marketing company for the destination- identified activities proven by science to help people feeling better. The company just launched one of the most original marketing campaigns of the tourism industry…

The “Sweden Prescription” is a marketing campaign intended as a supportive tool to promote physical and mental well-being, particularly in cases of stress, fatigue, mild anxiety, or other low- to moderate-level symptoms. It is of course not a substitute for clinical treatment. Healthcare professionals should use their clinical judgement to determine suitability, and patients with acute or severe health conditions should receive appropriate medical care through standard channels

With this initiative, Sweden is shining a spotlight on this topic and positioning itself— with a touch of humor— as the world’s first destination that doctors can prescribe. Visit Sweden teamed up with medical professionals from the UK, Germany, the USA and the Netherlands ready to prescribe a stay in Sweden so patients can benefit from the country’s restorative experiences.

They see Sweden’s nature, lifestyle, and culture as true allies for healthier living. Spending time in nature and engaging with culture are evidence-based ways to support both mental and physical health. Sweden offers an ideal setting for this kind of care,” explains Dr. Sam Everington, Vice President of the British Medical Association.

Sauna culture and well-being, walking in forests, enjoying culture without the crowds, Clean air, “fika” way of life are some of the prescribed “medicine”.

By doing so, Sweden becomes the first country to be available on prescription. There is even a document to print for patients or healthcare providers to get the prescription…
