Teletext reports sharp rise in calls for UK holidays
Teletext Holidays saw a 39% increase in calls for UK holidays on August 1 compared to the same day last year.
It said the growth in demand for UK breaks was due to the start of the summer holidays and a week of sunshine.
In July, Teletext launched a dedicated UK web channel ‘Stay In The UK’ and said coastal properties in Cornwall and Devon selling particularly well.
“Customers booking hotels across the country are spending on average £200 per transaction, and are intending to travel within the next four weeks,” said a spokeswoman.
Meanwhile, calls for overseas destinations continue to rise with a further 5% increase in demand, on top of a 15% growth at the end of July.
Matt Cheevers, MD Teletext Holidays, said: “Interest in overseas destinations continues to remain strong with a record breaking level of calls received over the last few weeks.
“Now that the weather in the UK has improved, we are seeing demand for UK based breaks increase dramatically too. If this weather holds, we expect demand to continue to increase over the coming weeks.”
