A Danish tourist claims she was robbed and gang-raped near New Delhi railway station in India.

The 51-year-old woman is reported to have since flown to Copenhagen.

In a statement to police, the woman said she had been in India for a week, first travelling to Agra and she arrived in the capital on Tuesday, according to a report in the Times of India.

The woman, who was staying at the Hotel Amax, visited the National Museum but got lost on her way back to the hotel in the evening, said the report.

As she was asking directions near the railway station she claims she was accosted by ‘vagabonds’, sexually assaulted and robbed of cash and other valuables.

The  Danish embassy was informed and police have detained six suspects.
