Tourist killed by lion in safari park
A tourist has been mauled to death by a lion at a South Africa game park after it jumped through an open car window.
A park official told the BBC the lioness jumped inside a couple’s car as they were driving through the park and started attacking the woman.
Park rangers chased the lioness away and paramedics were called to the scene, but the woman, believed to be from the US, died from her injuries. A man is still receiving treatment.
The incident occurred at the Lion Park, which is close to Johannesburg.
Assistant park ranger Scott Simpson told local media visitors were warned not to open their windows. "We make it so clear. We put signage up everywhere that people must keep their windows closed. We hand them a slip of paper when they enter the park, I really don’t understand why people think its okay to leave windows open," he said.
Earlier this year, Australian Brendan Smith posted images on Facebook of his injuries after being mauled by a lion at the same park, when he drove through in a car with an open window.
