The Arizona National Guard said it evacuated over 100 tribal members and tourists near Havasupai Falls after flood waters stranded them.

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs deployed the troops in response to the heavy flooding near the Grand Canyon.

The flood waters earlier swept away a woman.

The rescue effort was helped by local police, the National Park Service, and tribal leaders.

Deputy Jon Paxton of Coconino County said the evacuations were concluded over the weekend.

The woman who was swept away by the water was found deceased at the weekend.

On Sunday the Havasupai Tribal Council announced the Supai area was closed to visitors indefinitely due to the trail becoming impassable and extensive damage to campgrounds.

“My heart is with all of the people impacted by the flooding in Havasupai, including Tribal members and visitors to the area,” Gov. Hobbs said.

“I’ll continue working closely with leaders on the ground to protect the Havasupai community.”
