Virgin Atlantic has won the title of best travel company for customer service while Travel Republic has been named as the top retailer.

Virgin came third in the top 100 survey of British brands, behind online retailer Amazon and department store John Lewis.

Travel Republic was in 26th place, ahead of Thomson, First Choice and Thomas Cook – all of which made it into Nunwood's top 100.

It is the second year analystics specialist Nunwood has published the results of its Customer Experience Excellence Programme, which questioned 7,300 customers in September their opinion of 250 brands.

Travel Republic managing director Kane Pirie said: “High standards of customer care are at the heart of our business and over 96% of our customers, numbering circa 2 million per annum, would recommend us to a friend or family member. This commitment to the customer has clearly been instrumental in our continued growth.”

Last year, Travel Republic was in 77th position.
