Travel sharing startup in asia
I Like Local plans authentic activities with locals in 8 Asian countries
Social travel website I Like Local is launching an international platform in Hong Kong this week enabling travelers to book unique, local activities with locals in Asia. There are 190 different activities across eight countries in Asia on the website, from fishing with a local fisherman in Sri Lanka to volunteering in the slums of India.
100% of the money asked by the locals for their activities is directly paid to them; I Like Local doesn’t charge them anything, it l adds a small percentage on top of the price of the local.
I Like Local will connect travelers to locals who offer activities in categories including homestay, farmstay, art & culture and food experience, the startup offers activities with locals in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. In the future more activities in other Asian countries, Africa and South-America will be offered.
For the local community there are no costs involved for participating in the concept; 100% of the money asked by the locals for their activities is directly paid to them. Depending on the price the local entrepreneur is asking for I Like Local will add 10 to 20% on top of that.
I Like Local is founded by former business consultant Sanne Meijboom. Meijboom was born in the Netherlands and is now living in Hong Kong. After an international career in India and Brazil she developed the concept I Like Local. "With I Like Local I want to combine my passion for other countries and cultures with a principle I truly believe in – the sharing economy. "
"I Like Local is the result. More and more people are looking for simpler, more ethical and authentic experiences. This is exactly what a local can offer. By cutting out the traditional travel agency, the local as well as the traveler will get a better price. With I Like Local I want to offer people in developing countries a worldwide market in a simple way."
