Tropical Storm Cindy impacts flights and cruises
As Tropical Storm Cindy bears down on the Gulf Coast, United Airlines has issued an advisory and free travel waiver for booked passengers, while Carnival Cruise Line has rerouted two ships away from the eye of the storm.
Travellers due to fly in and out of airports in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and parts of Florida have been invited to rebook free of charge for new flights departing on or before June 25.
Airports affected include Houston, TX, New Orleans and Baton Rouge, LA, Gulfport, MS, and Pensacola Panama City and Destin/Ft. Walton Beach in Florida.
Tropical Storm Cindy has already forced changes to itineraries for Carnival Valor and Carnival Triumph.
Both ships had been diverted from scheduled stops in Cozumel to Progreso.
The storm has already claimed its first life.
A 10-year old boy died on an Alabama beach after being struck by a log which came ashore in strong waves.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration forecasts ‘very heavy rainfall’ with the chance of ‘life-threatening flash flooding’ in areas of the central and eastern Gulf Coast.
