Tyrol village to host cross-country competition
Galtur, at the head of the Paznaun valley in Austria’s Tyrol, is celebrating its 21st anniversary as the region’s first climatic health-resort with a Nordic Race Night.
The Galtur Nordic Race Night takes place on April 5, when cross-country ski competitors take to the tracks and the specially-made course through the village for qualification and elimination rounds.
The Paznaun villages of Galtur, Ischgl, Kappl and See are collectively one of Tyrol’s Nordic ski specialist areas and have much to offer cross-country fans with wide open Nordic ski tracks, snow reliability, infrastructure and expert advice.
In addition, this winter Galtur has new snowmaking equipment for the Nordic tracks, ensuring a full season of white circuits.
The village has held the title of ‘climatic health resort’ since April 1997 – and became the first in Tyrol to do so – because of its air quality that is virtually pollen and pollutant-free according to key weather readings, monitored by a central office in Vienna.
Race Night will see €7,900 of prize money up for grabs.
