UK drops ban on Pakistan airlines
The UK has lifted its years-long ban on flights by Pakistan airlines.
The ban had been in place for five years
It came after a scandal was revealed in 2020 that many pilots in the country had cheated in their pilot’s exam.
It came to light that nearly one-third of pilots had cheated.
The UK Air Safety Committee imposed the ban which came not long after a deadly PIA plane crash in Karachi.
Authorities say they are satisfied with safety standards after ‘extensive engagement’ between the Air Safety Committee and the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority, the British High Commission said.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency lifted its ban earlier this year.
Airlines such as PIA will be required to apply for operating permits again from the UK Civil Aviation Authority.
