United cuts off Starlink connectivity after cockpit glitch

Tuesday, 10 Jun, 2025 0

United Airlines has cut off Starlink Wi-Fi on its fleet of Embraer E175 aircraft due to an unforeseen tech glitch.

The Starlink connection is causing radio static in pilots’ communications with air traffic control.

United temporarily disabled Starlink Wi-Fi on the aircraft so extensive tests can be carried out

United says it hasn’t caused any potential safety issues.

Until a definitive answer as to why it is happening is found soon, it could impact further Starlink rollout across the United fleet.

Starlink Wi-Fi had been installed on about two dozen regional jets.

“United and Starlink teams are working together to address a small number of reports of static interference during the operation of the Wi-Fi system,” the airline said

“We expect the service to be back up and running on these aircraft soon.”
