US woman throws baby from moving car in Bali
An American woman is under medical evaluation in Bali after a tragic murder-suicide attempt.
Nicole Stasio threw her two-month old baby from a car and then tried to kill herself by jumping from the moving vehicle.
The two-month old baby died from her injuries.
Indonesian police say they have not been able to question the woman as she is suffering severe depression.
A driver and guide travelling with Stasio said she leapt from the vehicle without warning, and hadn’t initially realised the baby was thrown moments earlier.
According to South Denpasar police chief Nyoman Wiarajaya Stasio traveled to Bali with her parents in July.
They left after 10 days and she gave birth in Bali a short time later.
"She refused to answer when they (the parents) asked about her baby’s father," Wiarajaya said, citing information from the driver and tour guide who had been with Stasio since she arrived in Bali.
"She gave the impression that she was unmarried and her family preferred that she give birth to a child abroad, like wanting to avoid something," Wiarajaya added.
She was being driven to the airport to fly home but during the journey changed her mind and asked to return to the tourist town of Ubud.
Both the driver and tour guide insisted there were no signs of what was to come, saying Stasio was calm throughout the journey.
Just before giving birth Stasio had set up a GoFundMe campaign seeking funds to pay for medical costs.
