According to the U.S. International Trade Administration, international visitor arrivals to the United States totaled 5,278,944 in June, a decrease of -6.2% from the same month of 2024. It was the fifth consecutive month of tourism decline for the destination.
Total non-U.S. resident international visitor volume represented only 83.4% of the pre-COVID total visitor volume reported for June 2019. Overseas visitor volume to the United States decreased 3.4% from June 2024. This was equivalent to a total of 2,802,955 arrivals.
The top 5 overseas tourism arrivals for the USA were the United Kingdom (237,677), India (166,527), Brazil (149,179), Colombia (116,544), and Japan (111,072).
Meanwhile the largest number of international visitor arrivals was from Mexico (1,375,762), Canada (1,100,227), the United Kingdom (283,628), India (214,345), and Brazil (163,416). Combined, these top 5 source markets accounted for 59.4% of total international arrivals.
Scandinavia does not forget Trump’s statement on Greenland
While Western Europe showed a decline in arrivals of only 2.5 % in June -better than the world average- some European inbound markets are collapsing. This is the case for all Scandinavian countries (Denmark -17.3%; Norway -13.9%, Sweden -12.8% and Finland -12.7%), the Netherlands (-8.5%), Switzerland (-6.2%) and France (-5.5%).
The biggest decline continues to come from Canada. Total arrivals from Canadian citizens to the USA showed a drop of 23.1% compared to June 2024.
Bad performance were also recorded in June from the Middle-East (-15.6%), the Pacific (-9.1%) and Asia (-6.9%). However, Central America and South America international arrivals showed progress in June. Total incoming travelers from these two sub-regions show a respective growth of 6.8% and 2.1%.
