Viva Macau’s Pyne heads for Russia
MACAU – Con Korfiatis is the new chief executive of Viva Macau, replacing Andrew Pyne, who is heading off to Russia.
Korfiatis, currently Viva’s chief operating officer and chief financial officer, worked with Qantas and Singapore Airlines before moving to Singapore-based LCC, Jetstar Asia, as chief executive.
Pyne, who resigned for personal reasons, will remain as a shareholder and advisor to the board of Viva Macau.
He told Destination Macau, “I’ll still be involved in Viva, but will be taking on the position of CEO for a new LCC in Russia, a domestic carrier. I’ll be starting from scratch, and I chose Russia because I’ve always been watching the market.”
Korfiatis said he was excited by the new additional routes awarded to Viva Macau, including Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam as well as Tokyo and Sydney.
Flights to Sydney are expected to launch in August.
“Macau is the hot spot in Asia and with many new resort and entertainment developments opening in 2007 and beyond, the future is exciting,” Korfiatis said.
Meanwhile, Viva Macau’s shareholders, led by MKW Capital, have increased their investment in the airline.
MKW Capital commented, “Viva Macau has a uniquely strong and experienced management team, ready now to lead the airline – and Macau – to the next level with international connections across the Asia Pacific region and the world.”
