Two British tourists among seven attacked in Paris

Two British people are among seven people injured in a late-night attack by a man carrying a knife in Paris.

Police say four of the victims have serious injuries following the incident which took place just before 11pm local time last night, in the city's 19th district.

The first victims, two men and a woman, were stabbed on on the quai de Loire, along the Ourcq canal.

Members of the public, who were playing a game of pétanque nearby, tried to stop the attack by throwing balls at the man, who is reported to be an Afghan.

He ran off, before attacking the two British tourists in a nearby street.

The Foreign Office said it is 'urgently investigating'.

One eye witness said he was carrying a knife about 11-inches long.

A French police source said: "At this stage, there is nothing to indicate that it could be a terrorist attack."
