Young Brit dies, a second is badly injured 'taking selfie' on Spanish holiday

A British holidaymaker died and another was seriously injured after they toppled off a cliff while taking a selfie on Spain's Costa Blanca.

They are believed to have fallenup to 40ft and landed on concrete near a lifeguard's hut in Punta Prima near the town of Torrevieja.

One man, aged 22, died at the scene. The other, a 21-year-old, suffered multiple injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

The accident happened close to a beach and a busy restaurant early yesterday evening.

A Civil Guard source told newspapers: "It appears the men fell after trying to take a picture on the wrong side of the railings overlooking the drop to the beach."

A third British man, aged 20, is believed to have been with them when they tried to take the photo. He wasn't injured.

A third man, aged 20, who was with the pair and is also understood to be British, was not physically injured although he was also taken to hospital in Alicante suffering from a panic attack.

On Tuesday, British teenager Luke Freeman, aged 19, died after falling plunging from holiday apartments in the Costa Brava resort of Lloret de Mar.

On Monday, Briton Ben Lloyd, aged 33, died when he was dragged out to sea at Benalmadena in the Costa del Sol.
