CTO to close UK office

The Caribbean Tourism Organization is to close its UK office as part of a major restructure.

The office, in Croydon, will close by the end of January 2020.

The CTO will also be closing its New York office by the end of the year and will carry out a comprehensive audit of its Barbados office.

In a statement, the tourism body said the decisions were part of efforts to better streamline its operations and finances.

"This restructuring exercise is expected to significantly~reduce the operational expenditures of CTO, giving it more capacity to undertake its key functions of regional marketing, statistics and research, and product development," it said.

"CTO notes that~this exercise will~lead to some displacement, but firmly believes that it represents a strong revitalization of the organization. This is a necessary process to ensure tourism plays its most vital role as a means to bring about opportunity and prosperity for the people of the Caribbean."

The UK office is headed up by Carol Hay, director of marketing UK Europe Caribbean Tourism Organisation, who has been in the role for more than 10 years.
