Report says almost half of Brits haven't visited a travel agent in the last decade

Just under half of Brits say they have not visited a travel agent in the last 10 years, according to research by travel search giant Kayak.

Its research amongst 1,007 adults in the UK found 47% said they had not stepped foot into an agency in the last decade.

The research found that 40% have switched to booking their holidays online, something they didn't do 10 years ago.

One in five said they now book elements of their holidays separately, something they didn't do in the previous decade.

Sophie Gough, Kayak senior director EMEA, said: "Whilst in the past, some travellers may have preferred the reassurance of booking through a resource such as a travel agent, most people find that once they put themselves in control, they actually feel more reassured and can travel with even more confidence than before.

"In the last 10 years almost half of British travellers have moved online. With this shift, we also see travellers booking each component of their trip separately and doing far more research on a destination with all the information they have available to them."

The research was carried out in January but has not yet been published.
