Flood warning for parts of France and Spain

Visitors to parts of France and Spain are being warned of severe rain and thunder storms that could cause travel disruption and damage.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued an alert saying there is a potential for flash flooding in the next few days.

It says parts of Spain, especially Cataolina, The Balearics, Basque Country, Cantabria and Asturias, plus south-western France, especially in the Herault, Aude, Pyrenees Orientales, Gard, Aveyron and Tarn departments, risk possible travel disruption and damage to property and infrastructure.

"You should follow the advice of the local authorities," it said.

Ten departments in southern France have been placed on orange alert and others on red alart.

Parts of northern Italy have also been affected and there have been reports of fatalities.
