Airbnb adds food experiences to its portfolio

Airbnb has launched a cooking category to its Experiences tours and activities division.

It plans to offer culinary classes by locals.

Airbnb says F&B themed experiences have grown 160% since 2018.

Cooking Experiences hosts will range from farmers, professional and non-professional cooks, as well as celebrities such as Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith, who will offer a half-day experience in January.

She said: "Join me at the Leith's School of Food and Wine where we'll work together to create three of my favourite recipes from my latest cookbook.

"We'll start off by getting to know each other and I'll provide some of the tips and tricks I've picked up over the years, and share some of my fondest cooking memories."

The cooking theme will also include tours of renowned food cities such as Lisbon, Florence, Mexico City and Singapore with local culinary hosts.

To mark the launch, Airbnb is searching for the world's best home cooks.

The top 100 will be picked for a free trip to Slow Food's University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, Italy to train with chefs and culinary experts.

They will then have a chance to create recipes which will be included in a special Airbnb cookbook to be published in 2020.
