Guests flee Travelodge as blaze engulfs hotel

Dozens of guests and staff were evacuated from a west London Travelodge last night after a fire broke out in a bin room.

More than 100 irefighters were called to the blaze at the Travelodge on the High Street, Brentford, just before 3am.

The fire had already spread from the ground floor to the five other floors by the time they arrived.

London Fire Brigade said there are no reported injuries but about 160 people had to flee the building in the middle of the freezing night with only the clothes they could grab, meaning many were suffering from cold. They were accommodated in a rest centre set up by the local authority, it added.

It is understood some people were also evacuated from nearby homes due to the extent of the fire.
