Passenger stung by scorpion during flight

A passenger was taken to hospital after being stung several times by a scorpion on a United Airlines flight.

After experiencing a 'stinging sensation' the woman went to the bathroom where the scorpion fell out of her trouser leg and 'scurried across the floor'.

Flight attendants managed to capture the creature.

The airline confirmed the incident and the passenger was transported to hospital for a check-up on arrival in Atlanta.

Crew members 'responded immediately' United said.

"We have been in contact with our customer to ensure her well-being."

It is not known how the scorpion got onto the plane, which departed from San Francisco, or what species it is.
