Shark attack feared after human leg washes up on Australian beach

New South Wales police fear there has been a deadly shark attack after a human leg washed up on a beach.

According to one resident near North Beach at Mylestom, NSW, it was a 'substantial part of the leg' still in a wetsuit and with the foot intact.

Police say it has the hallmarks of a shark attack and the owner of the leg is very likely dead.

According to media reports the leg had been in the ocean for some time.

The beach is situated near Coffs Harbour.

Police say it is possible the leg has floated hundreds of miles on currents before washing up on the beach.

A forensics team is trying to identify the individual through analysis of the leg bone and trying to ascertain how long it had been in the water.
