Passenger plane did not crash in Afghanistan

Claims by Afghanistan officials that a Boeing passenger jet had crashed with more than 80 people on board have been retracted.

Local reports initially said an Ariana Afghan Airlines on its way to Kabul had crashed but the airline quickly dismissed these reports saying all of its aircraft had arrived safely.

Flightradar backed up the airline's claims saying it had tracked the flight in question as landing at the airport.

The Taliban has since claimed that it has shot down an American military plane, killing everyone on board.
