Advantage sets up dedicated coronavirus advice hub

Advantage Travel Partnership has set up a dedicated online hub for members to access the latest health and travel advice about coronavirus.

Advantage said it will 'continue to update the coronavirus hub to ensure members are given the latest advice relating to travel to China and global destinations where coronavirus cases have been reported'.

It comes as latest figures show over 361 people have died from the disease, including the first fatality outside of China. There are now over 17,000 confirmed cases, including two in the UK.

The hub includes advice from Advantage's business partners in the UK and globally, as well as the World Health Organisation, the UK Government, TravelHealthPro, Public Health England and ABTA.

The first fatality from coronavirus outside China was a 44-year-old Chinese man who died in the Philippines.

He was from Wuhan, in Hubei province, where the virus was first detected and appears to have been infected before arriving in the Philippines, WHO said.

He was admitted to hospital in Manila on January 25 complaining of a fever, cough, and sore throat, then developed severe pneumonia.

The US, Australia, Singapore and an increasing number of other countries have barred the arrival of foreigners from China and are requiring their own citizens to be quarantined.

Cruise lines worldwide are denying boarding to anyone who has recently travelled from, or through, mainland China in a bid to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

There is still reason to believe the growing coronavirus outbreak in China can be contained, WHO official Dr Mike Ryan said on Saturday, pointing to some evidence that the disease may not be spreading as rapidly as is feared.
