ITT relaunches annual student awards

The Institute of Travel and Tourism's annual student awards has been rebranded for 2020, as the ITT Future You Awards.

Entries are now open for the awards, which will see the introduction of a new accolade for 2020, the ITT Mentor of the Year.

Claire Steiner, chair of ITT's education and training committee said: "The rebranding of our annual awards, which began with our flagship Bella Rangel Callen ITT Student of the Year award back in 2006, is as a direct result of our highly successful ITT Future You initiative.

It reflects the evolution of professionalism within our industry, the growth in upskilling of experienced travel professionals now studying academic qualifications redefining who is a 'typical' student in 2020 and the addition of the new ITT Mentor of the Year award, opening up nominations to industry role models".

The ITT Future You initiative has had more than 14,000 students attend its events across the UK since it was founded in 2008.

Initially starting as a one-off conference session at WTM London, an 'on the road' format was developed and launched in 2014, combining interactive seminar sessions and career fairs in partnership with Universities across the country; with more than 350 travel brands taking part.

Most recently, it launched a global format, in collaboration with the Global Travel and Tourism Partnership (GTTP), which has seen replica events take place in Russia, Brazil and Kenya.

Steiner added, "Our annual awards celebrate the best diverse talent across our whole industry. In addition to our university student and mentor winners, we will also recognise the best in hospitality & catering, responsible tourism, business leadership and announce our apprentice of the year too".

Nominations can be made via the ITT website and close on April 30, 2020. Winners will be announced at the ITT Future You Awards on July 16, 2020 at the House of Commons.
