Man hunt launched after British skier beaten unconscious

Police in a popular Austrian ski resort have launched a man hunt after a British skier was beaten unconscious by a snowboarder using a ski pole.

The man, aged 55, had to be airlifted to hospital. He has since been discharged and, say police, is on his way back to the UK.

It has been reported that he was attacked by a snowboarder after the pair got into a row on a ski slope in Zillertal.

The British man had apparently challenged the snowboarder after he nearly crashed into a group of skiers. During the row, the snowboarder allegedly grabbed a pole from one of the skiers and hit the man over the head 'two or three times'.

Police said the snowboarder fled after the British man, who wasn't wearing a helmet, fell to the ground.

They are searching for 'a ginger-beared man' who was wearing a grey ski jacket and grey helmet at the time of the attack, which happened late on Sunday afternoon.
