British Travel Awards adds 'Covid-19' category

Nominations for the 2020 British Travel Awards have opened today, as normal, but with a special category for companies that have best supported clients during the coronavirus.

Travel companies are able to apply for listing on the 2020 consumer-facing voting form.

The registration period has been extended until July 6, which the organisers said was to allow travel companies 'time to take stock and to have, hopefully by then, started the recovery process'.

Consumer voting will take place later than usual, between July 27 and October 25, with the winners announced on November 25.

This year, in addition to the usual categories, there will be a special consumer-nominated  'Best Supporting Travel Company - Covid-19 Award' to give consumers the opportunity to vote for any travel company they felt offered excellent support, customer service, communication and flexibility during the coronavirus pandemic

British Travel Awards CEO Lorraine Barnes Burton said: "Well known for resilience and overcoming extraordinary disruptions to business, the travel industry will, we truly believe, recover in time.  People will still want to travel and so we will continue to operate the 2020 British Travel Awards so that we will have some good news, encouraging messages and reasons to celebrate when we emerge, not unscathed, but still united when Covid-19 has been beaten."
