Travel industry forms Great American Economic Revival group

US President Donald Trump has spoken directly with the president of the US Travel Association Roger Dow to discuss reviving the tourism industry following the pandemic.

The States' travel and hospitality sector will form part of a Great American Economic Revival Industry Group to forge a path to recovery. Membership of the group consists mainly of hotel chain and cruise line CEOs.

During a conference call with the White House, the US Travel Association said it was clear President Trump 'recognises the critical role of the travel and hospitality sector in the recovery of our economy and workforce'.

"As one of the first and hardest-hit industries by the pandemic's effects, this appointment will only strengthen engagement with our partners in the government as we work together to rebuild America," it said.

"Overwhelmingly, the collective task force agreed the first step toward recovery is greater access to testing to ensure the health and safety of Americans. We will work with our task force colleagues to advance industry-specific recommendations in the weeks ahead."

Appointees of the Great American Economic Revival Industry Group are:

  • Carnival Cruise Line - Micky Arison
  • Hilton - Christopher Nassetta
  • Hyatt - Mark Hoplamazian
  • Intercontinental Hotels Group - Elie Maalouf
  • Las Vegas Sands Corp. - Sheldon Adelson
  • Marriott International- Arne Sorenson
  • Norwegian Cruise Lines - Frank Del Rio
  • Royal Caribbean - Richard Fain
  • Treasure Island Hotels - Phil Ruffin
  • U.S. Travel Association - Roger Dow
  • Wyndham Hotels & Resorts - Geoff Ballotti
