Wizz confirms launch of low-cost Abu Dhabi airline in June

Budget carrier Wizz Air insists it will launch its new low-cost Abu Dhabi airline in June as planned, with the first flights between the United Arab Emirates' capital and Budapest and Bucharest starting next month.

It will add three additional destinations from Abu Dhabi in September, it announced today.

The airline has been criticised for its decision to re-launch flights between London Luton and 15 destinations last Friday, even though most passengers who booked seats on the services prior to the lockdown won't be able to fly due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.

The airline has also re-launched flights from its base in Vienna after seeing a 97% drop in passengers in April, during which it focused on operating cargo flights carrying medical supplies. Wizz has also operated 28 rescue flights since the start of the pandemic.

It is planning to open a new base in Lviv in Ukraine on July 1, from where it will fly to five destinations, and it will operate additional services from Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city.
